ANDERSON, SC ROBERT DENNIS GAMBRELL May 10, 1943 - August 12, 2012 Robert Dennis Gambrell, age 69, of 504 Camellia Drive, passed away at the AnMed Health Center on Sunday, August 12, 2012. Born in Honea Path, he was a son of the late John Henry Gambrell and the late Jessie Mae Sharpe Gambrell. He was the devoted husband of Mary Osborne Gambrell to whom he was married for 36 years. Mr. Gambrell was retired as a pipefitter in the industrial construction business. Prior to that, he worked for Joseph Lyons Mill where he served as a supervisor in the weave shop. He proudly served his country in the US Army for 6 years during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his wife, Mary Gambrell of the home, he is survived by a son James R. Gambrell and his wife, Peggy, of Anderson; a brother, Clarence Marion Gambrell and his wife, Frances, of Anderson; 2 sisters, Dorothy Faye Houston of Saluda, NC, and Ellen Irby and her husband, Pete, of Honea Path. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gambrell was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dennis Gambrell, a brother, Johnny F. Gambrell, and a sister, Patricia Ann Page. Funeral Services honoring the life of Robert Dennis Gambrell will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 2:30 PM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Sister Sara Steene, Pastor Rosa Black, and Brother Doug McCartney officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6 PM until 8 PM.
