Obituary

Robert Byrum Gray "Brother Bob", of Anderson, SC, peacefully went to heaven on Tuesday, June 13, 2023. Brother Bob was born on August 14, 1940, in Southgate (Los Angeles), CA. He married the love of his life, Kay Alexander of New Orleans, LA, on June 24, 1960. He graduated from Sam Ramon High School in Danville, CA, in 1958, and Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelor of Music Education in 1967. He also earned his degree in church business administration from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 2001. Brother Bob served the Lord in many capacities and at multiple churches. He was on staff as youth pastor, minister of music, associate pastor, and church administrator. His first place of ministry was at First Baptist Church, Pamona, CA. His most recent churches were Edwards Road Baptist Church in Greenville, SC, and he retired his ministry from Central Baptist Church of Oak Ridge, TN where he served twice for a total of 27 years. Brother Bob was preceded in death by his parents William and Dorothy Gray. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost 63 years, Kay Gray; daughter Toy Gray Crumpton and son-in-law Chris Crumpton of Anderson, SC, daughter Courtney Gray O'Leary and son-in-law Ronnie O'Leary of Charlotte, NC; siblings Joanna Patterson, Loren Gray, Carolyn Kelly, and Cheryl Taylor; and grandchildren, Robert Rigsbee and Kenzie Rigsbee. Brother Bob's first passion was living every moment for Christ and second was his family. He loved camping in their airstream and served as chaplain of The Top of Georgia Airstream Club. He played the trumpet with joy, liked golf, and tinkering with his HO scale model train set. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and president of the Mike Wallace Sunday School Class. A private service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Chad Gamble officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621, and Haven of Rest Ministries, 219 W. Whitner St, Anderson, SC 29624.
