ANDERSON, SC'Robert Thomas Mackey, age 75, passed away at home on Saturday, February 19, 2011.Robert (Bob) was born March 18, 1935, in Urbana, IL, as a son of the late Floyd E. and Emma Mae Moore Mackey. He attended schools in Monticello, IL, and graduated from Monticello Community High School with the Class of 1953. Bob married Patty Jo (Record) Mackey on June 25, 1955, in Rossville, GA. She is also a native of Monticello, IL. Bob was a twenty-year Military Veteran and an Air Controller. He retired from the US Navy in 1975, and for the next six years was associated with the Mackey Funeral Home, Monticello, IL. In 1986, Bob entered the Foreign Service and served as a Communications Officer for the Central Intelligence Agency. He served in many foreign locales and retired from the Agency in 1996, and from then on, resided in Anderson, SC, where he enjoyed boating, sailing, and eating with the neighborhood men twice a week. He was a former Mason.Bob is survived by his wife, of Anderson, SC; son, Mark Stewart Mackey (Teri) of Novato, CA; granddaughter, Elizabeth Anne Mackey of Novato, CA; grandsons: Jedidiah Christian Mackey (Sarah) of Santa Rosa, CA, and Samuel Mark Mackey (Katie) of Virginia Beach, VA; and two great grandchildren: Avery Mackey of Novato, CA, and Livia Mae Mackey of Santa Rosa, CA; a brother, William R. Mackey (Frances) of Mansfield, IL, and many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: J.W. & Phillip Mackey; and a sister, Jean Moore Mackey Gray.A Graveside Service with Full Military Honors conducted by the US Navy will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at the M.J. 'Dolly' Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Dan Batson.
