Robert (Bobby) Ellis Mayfield died November 17, 2021 at his home in Anderson, SC. Husband of Penelope (Penny) Mayfield for 57 years, he was a native of Anderson, SC. His parents were Walter A. Mayfield, Sr., and Elizabeth Ellis Mayfield of Anderson. He is the last surviving member of his immediate family. Bobby grew up in Anderson, graduated from Boys High School in 1954, and received a BS degree from Presbyterian College in 1959. Following his service with the US Army Reserves, he worked with FW Woolworth Co. in Greenville and Piedmont Natural Gas Co. in Anderson. He then joined with LaFrance Industries in Sandy Springs where he remained until his retirement in 1998. Upon his retirement, he and Penny enjoyed traveling in the US and abroad. A lifelong member of Central Presbyterian Church, of which his grandparents were charter members, Bobby served in many capacities, one of the last being a member of the "Yard Birds" which entailed taking care of the church grounds and other unusual necessities. Survivors include his wife; sons, Frank Hunt Mayfield (Rachel), Robert Ellis Mayfield, Jr.; delightful twin grandsons, Jacob Robert and Stephen Hundley Mayfield; brother-in-law, CDR. Frank Hunt, Ret. USN (Jean); and the families of Mayfield nephews and nieces. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Walter A. Mayfield, Jr. and his sister-in-law, Luta Bewley Sullivan Mayfield. Private interment services will be followed by visitation in Central Presbyterian Fellowship Hall from 11:30 am - 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 8, 2022. The memorial service will follow in the Sanctuary of Central Presbyterian Church at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 N. Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621 or Community Foundation of Greenville, 630 E. Washington Street, Greenville, SC 20601, in memory of Bobby's nephew, Ellis Mayfield.
