Robert Clayton McConnell, age 77, of Anderson, SC, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at AnMed Medical Center.

He was born in Knoxville, Tennessee on December 16, 1946, to Daniel and Neva McConnell. In 1957 the family moved from Florence, Alabama to Anderson, SC. Once established in Anderson, Bobby began a paper route with the Daily Mail. Bobby started working at Hammond's Grocery in 1958 where he worked for 22 years. Bobby served in the National Guard for six years. Bobby went on to work in construction and later at Isola Westinghouse where he retired. Bobby and Debbie are faithful and loyal members of Electric City Fellowship.

Bobby married Debbie Stone on June 17, 1972. Where not only did he become a son-in-law to Debbie's parents but a best friend to her father Hollis and mother Sara Stone. They later had two sons, Eddie, and Chris whom they love dearly. The family loved taking yearly beach trips to Sunset Beach or Ocean Isle Beach, NC, a tradition still carried on for many decades. Bobby and Debbie were married for 52 hilarious years. Bobby also enjoyed playing guitar, music, golf, photography just to mention a few. He was also a Perry Mason aficionado.

Bobby was preceded in death by his in law's, parents, and brother Dan McConnell. Also, unimaginably by his son, Christopher Clayton McConnell in 2017.

Bobby is survived by his loving and steadfast wife Debbie, son Eddie McConnell (Amanda) of Columbia, South Carolina; niece, Katie Dean Walden (Joe) and affectionally known as Bop-Bop to their children Emma and Reid Walden; sister-in-law, Donna Queen (Larry) all of Anderson, SC; and brother-in-law, Tony Stone (LuAnn) of Greenville, SC.

In addition to Bobby's immediate family, he leaves behind to cherish many cookouts, beach trips and Clemson games by Donna Rich, DeeAnn, Duncan, Ali, Shep and Al Wright, Taylor Fitch, and Adam Frank whom he loves as his own.

The family will receive friends Thursday, May 30, 2024, from 10:30-11:45 am at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Richard Lister officiating.
