Palmer, Jr.
January 13, 1938 – December 22, 2024
Robert Evan Palmer, Jr., age 86, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at AnMed Medical Center.
Born January 13, 1938, in Winston Salem, NC, he was the son of Robert Evan Palmer, Sr. and Anna Love Oliver Rankin.
Evan was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served in the South Carolina Air National Guard. He received the SC Exceptional Service Medal. Evan was a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was awarded and recognized by the order of Wig and Robe for his outstanding scholastic record. He was also a member of Phi Delta Phi and Kappa Alpha Order. Upon his graduation, he worked in the South Carolina Attorney General's office until he entered private practice in Greenwood and then in Anderson. He served as an attorney for over 40 years. He was a member of the South Carolina State Bar and the Trial Lawyers Association.
Outside his professional career, he enjoyed reading, politics, playing cards with his trout club friends and was passionate about fly-fishing and shagging. He was an avid South Carolina Gamecock fan. He truly loved his family and especially cherished the moments with his grandchildren, attending any activity they participated in. There was a special smile when he shared time with them. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Adams Shannon Palmer; daughters, Katherine Palmer DeMasi (Dickie) of Irmo, SC, Sara "Sissy" Palmer Baker of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Rachael Elizabeth Shannon Young (Ryan) of Woodstock GA; son, Tresco Edward Shannon Jr. (Katie) of Anderson, SC; sister, Pamela L. White of Anderson, SC; brothers, John H. Rankin, III of Shelby, NC and William (Bill) Palmer of Murrells Inlet, SC: and grandchildren, Aras Love Baker, Richard Anthony DeMasi, IV, Nicolas Payne DeMasi, Mimi Louise DeMasi, Evan Palmer DeMasi, Iris Gourdin Young, Henry Francis Young, and Watson Tresco Shannon. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews which he loved and shared special relationships with through the years.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 12:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:00 am until 12:15 pm. A committal with military honors will be held at 2:00 pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
