MARSHALL STONE December 31, 1908 - February 6, 2007STARR, SC Mr. Robert Marshall Stone, Sr., age 98, of 117 Smith McGee Road, died at his residence on Thursday, February 6, 2007. Mr. Stone was born in the Lebanon Community of Anderson County on December 31, 1908 as a son of the Robert C. Stone and Mary Johnson Stone. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War Two. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant. Mr. Stone was a graduate of Erskine College and a longtime member of Starr United Methodist Church. Mr. Stone was a retired educator and school administrator having taught in the Pelzer school system and Starr-Iva school system. In 1973, he retired from Crescent High School as Principal. Mr. Stone also coached basketball, and during his tenure as a coach, he was responsible for several state championships. Among all his civic and vocational duties, Mr. Stone loved his family and his farm. In addition to his parents, Mr. Stone was preceded in death by his wife, Bess Jones Stone; a son, Robert M. Stone, Jr.; a grandson, Thomas Allen Stone; a brother, Wilton Earl 'Pete' Stone; two sisters, Helen Sharpe and Maude Hunnicutt. Mr. Stone is survived by his daughter, Sammy Jo Smith and her husband, Doug Smith of Rockford, TN; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. R.M. (Kathy) Stone, Jr., of Starr; a sister, Myra Glasco of Greenwood; grandson, Robert M. Stone, III and his wife, Joyce Ann Stone of Starr; grandson, Samuel Jarett Stone of Starr; granddaughter, Corrie Bess Smith of Rockford, TN; great granddaughter, Jozie Ann Stone of Starr; and a beloved friend formerly of the home, Liana Fisher of Anderson. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 8, 2007 in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverend Jeff Roper and the Reverend Dr. Ralph T. Bowling, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 7, 2007.
