Heaven is once again in concert as Robin B. Kelley, Sr. joined his beloved wife Peggy in heaven at the side of our good Lord during the early morning hours of August 22, 2019. His is now dancing forever with the love of his life!
Robin (his friends called him Bobby), of Anderson, South Carolina was a professor, author, Eagle Scout, scholar, photographer, loving husband and father, and enjoyed travel. He also enjoyed the family home on Lake Hartwell and the endless summer days on the lake filled with fishing, skiing and swimming.
For most of his professional career, he was Head of the Math and Science Department at Anderson University and was a professor of biology, botany, anatomy and physiology. His tests were rumored to be some of the most difficult on record. Selected by Anderson University to conduct desert biological studies in Arizona, the entire family packed up for two summer adventures in the desert South West. Great times that will always be remembered.
One of his passions was raising championship beagles and he filled the fireplace mantle with a collection of 1st place trophies from judged rabbit hunting field trials. His champions were well known throughout the upstate.
He and Peggy loved to spend time together at Kiawah Island, while dancing on the beach at community parties. They also enjoyed taking their grandchildren to meet their son Robin Jr. at Georgia Football games. It was a special time between the hedges for us all. He loved attending church, baseball games and other events in Clemson with his daughter and son in law, Deegie and Benjie. He loved his two grandsons Ben and Bobby, they were his best buddies.
Bobby made quite the impression on everyone he met. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church in Anderson and was well known for helping those who had little, often inviting students home for dinner while providing them with clothing or something they could not afford. His help and guidance made a real difference in the lives of so many young people.
Preceded in death by his wife Peggy Evatt Kelley, Bobby lived in Anderson, S.C. Their children are: son, Robin B. Kelley, Jr. and friend Michael Sokolowski of Atlanta and daughter, Deegie McGill and husband Benjie of Clemson and their two children (Bobby's grandsons), Ben McGill and wife Megan of Atlanta, and Bobby McGill of Clemson. Bobby's parents were Henry G. Kelley, Sr. and wife Gertrude, and his brother Henry G. Kelley, Jr. and wife Marilyn of Spartanburg, South Carolina. Bobby graduated from Wofford College and Clemson University with a Masters in Biology. He also attended the Medical University of South Carolina. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Anderson and later joined the First Baptist Church in Clemson.
In his life, Bobby will always be remembered as someone with a perpetual smile, gregarious and fun loving. He always had a story to tell or joke ready for any occasion that would make you laugh. He also co-authored a children's science book, Fuzzy Freddy Fungus, with his son Robin, Jr.
Irish Blessing for you, Dad: Your smile is with us forever
but your hand we cannot touch, we still have so many memories
of the one we loved so very much. Your memory is now our keepsake
which with we'll never part. God has you in his keeping, and we you in our hearts. Until we meet again, we love you Daddy!
