Obituary

Roger Dale Whitfield, age 78, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at his residence.

Born September 9, 1947, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Hoyt Whitfield and Lula Whitfield. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Worley Whitfield and his sister, Helen Jones.

Roger dedicated many years of his life to serving his community as a proud firefighter with the City of Anderson Fire Department, where he eventually retired after a distinguished career. He was respected for his courage, dependability, and commitment to helping others. Outside of his career, Roger found great joy in the outdoors. Whether he was fishing or hunting with family and friends. He was also a gifted handyman who could fix just about anything, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Roger was a devoted deacon at Calvary Baptist Church, where he faithfully served his church family with humility, compassion, and a servant's heart. Above all else, Roger treasured his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Delores Whitfield; his son, Rodney Whitfield (Melissa); sister, Diane Wilbanks; and grandchildren, Amelia, Elijah, Margaret, Ellen, Caroline, and Cameron McClain.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Calvary Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00pm with Rev. Curtis Bundy officiating. There will be a private burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
