Ronald Patrick Blalock, age 70, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016. Born in Anderson, SC on June 24, 1946, he was the son of the late Claude O'Dell Blalock and the late Lillian Powell Blalock. He was a 1964 graduate of Hart County High School and a 1966 graduate of Young Harris College. He was a 1968 graduate of University of Georgia, earning his Bachelors of Science degree. In 1968 he joined the Air Force, serving in Vietnam. During his 20 years of service to his country he earned many medals. Those include, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device, AF Training Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, NCO Professional Military Education Graduation Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, AF Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, AF Good Conduct Medal, AF Organizational Excellence Award, AF Outstanding Unit Award with Valor Device, AF Commendation Medal, and Meritorious Service Medal. After retiring from the Air Force, he became a civilian employee of the department of the Navy working at Pearl Harbor for many years. Ronald loved to play golf. He is survived by his brother, Kenneth Clay Blalock and his wife Reba, of Hartwell, GA; and three sisters, Etrulia White, of Anderson, SC, Carolyn Ann Goldman, of Palm Desert, CA, and Janet Lynn Blalock Adkins, of Hartwell, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Timothy Samuel Blalock; and a brother-in-law, Reverend Curtis T. White. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Wendell Bannister and Reverend Gary Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery.
