McCullough, age 59, passed away in Anderson.Born in Anderson, SC, on July 30, 1950, he was a highly decorated Vietnam War Hero ' having received the Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the National Defense Star Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal. In addition, he received honor for being an operator of both the Expert Rifle M-16 and the Sharpshooter Rifle M-14. He was also an Attack Helicopter Repairman while in service and later a helicopter repairman while a resident of Oklahoma. He was a Civil War enthusiast and was of the Baptist faith.He is survived by his children, Jason & Christine McCullough of Oklahoma; sisters, Nancy Prince Mackey and Peggie Donnald and her husband, Ed, all of Anderson; nieces: Lisa Hopkins and Stephanie Hart, both of Anderson, and Karen Wood of Spartanburg; nephew, Chris Roberts of Blontville, TN; great nieces: Casey Todd and Nicole Todd, both of Anderson; and dear family friends: Thomas & Shirley Wheeler and Steve & Melody Solesbee.His parents, C.W. McCullough and Mary Kathryn Philyaw; and his stepfather, Walter Philyaw, preceded Mr. McCullough in death.A Graveside Service with Military Honors and Civil War Honors will be held at 3 pm on Wednesday, August 12, 2009, at M. J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The Reverend Bob Philyaw will conduct the service.
