Roy Samuel Alexander, age 92, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born April 27, 1932, in Union, SC, he was the son of the late Arthur Bailey Alexander and Onie Riddle Alexander. He was married to Betty Jean Jones Alexander until her death in 2023. He was also preceded in death by 3 brothers, Frank Alexander, Arthur Alexander, Jr., and Johnny Alexander; and 2 sisters, Doris Calvert and Ruby Plemmons.
Roy was a graduate of West Springs High School and was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He was formerly a supervisor with Springs Industries. Roy was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church. He served as a Sunday School teacher while living in Union, SC. Among his many hobbies were working on cars (especially Volkswagens), gardening, traveling, and camping with church friends. He loved sitting on the beach enjoying the sounds of the ocean and the sunshine. Roy also had many favorite things including steak, banana pudding, trucks, and his VW Rabbit. He also enjoyed his time working at Carolina Auto Auction where he met and made many friends. Roy will be remembered as a good-hearted man with a generous soul that would help anyone in need.
He is survived by his daughters, Brenda Housley, Lisa Frederick, and Micki Boan; brother, Harold Dean Alexander; 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and 1 expected great grandchild.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 28, 2024, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place at 2:00 pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery with Rev. Drew Gunter officiating.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion. Flowers may be selected via Mr. Alexander's obituary page on the funeral home website.
