BAKER, SR.May 19, 1924 - May 10, 2009ANDERSON, SCRoy Cleon Baker, Sr., age 84, husband of Sue Jewell Baker, died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at his home in Anderson, SC.Mr. Baker was a longtime resident of Jesup, GA before moving to Anderson, SC. He was the son of the late William Andrew and Lilly Mae Beaver Baker. Roy was a graduate of Jesup High School and retired from Rayonier Paper Corporation with 30 years of service. Roy was also a farmer and along with his wife, Eula Mae Baker, was the owner of the Mae Shop. He served in the United States Navy during WW II on the USS O'Neil in the South Pacific. He was a member of River of Life Church of God in Anderson, SC. Survivors include his wife, Sue Weeks Jewell Baker, of the home; children Roy Baker Jr. (Barbara) of Jesup, GA; Gary Baker (Laura) of Nashville, TN; Kathy Rice (Rev. Jerry) of Calhoun, GA; Darryl Jewell (Mandi), Ron Jewell (Theresa) and Craig Jewell (Karen), Sherry Elgadi, Daphne Mackey (Dennis), all of Anderson, and 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his first wife of 54 years, Eula Mae Baker; siblings, Robert A. Baker, Hugh Baker, Faye Baker and Margie Richardson.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, 2009 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm. with the funeral following in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home at 3:00 pm, officiated by the Reverend Jerry Rice, Dr. Stoney Abercrombie, Mr. Darryl Jewell and Reverend Joe Vicars. A Funeral Service will also be held in Jesup, GA at the Jesup Church of God on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at 1:00 pm with visitation one prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery in Jesup, GA.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to the charity of one's choice.The Jewell family would like to thank God for allowing Roy (Papa) into our lives.
