James Roy Chapman, age 77, of 943 Williams Street, Pendleton, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Generations of Batesburg. Born in Anderson County on February 5, 1940, he was the son of the late Floyd William Chapman and the late Sadie Wilson Chapman. For forty-two years, he was the loving husband of the late Barbara Fant Chapman until her death in 2014. Following graduation from high school, Roy was employed by Jacobs Manufacturing in Seneca. After retiring from Jacobs, he was employed by Anderson School District IV where he worked as a custodian. Mr. Chapman was a member of Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. Survivors include an aunt and uncle, Thelma Grace and Walter Sweet of Anderson; a great nephew and niece, Gregory and Tracie Sweet of Lexington, SC. Roy was the last surviving member of his immediate family. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Roy Chapman will be held on Sunday, November 26, 2017, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Cy Rogers officiating. Interment will follow at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery.
