Roy L. Smith, age 78, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at his residence. Born on April 9, 1938 in Lavonia, GA, he was the son of the late Charlie M. Smith and the late Mildred Green Smith. He was a 1956 graduate of Boys High School in Anderson and Whiten Machine Works, in Boston MA. Roy was the co-owner of S & S Machine and Maintenance and co-owner of Besto in Anderson, SC. He was a former member of 52 years of Whitefield Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Sunday School teacher. For the past three years he was a member of North Anderson Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Olbon Smith; his children, Sharon Christmas and her husband Andy, of Anderson, SC, Sandra Bagwell and her husband Don, of Pelzer, SC, Susan Singleton and her husband Jamie, of Anderson, SC, and Scott Smith and his wife Jeanie, of Williamston, SC; grandchildren, Eric Singleton, of Morrison, CO, Michael Bagwell, of Greenville, SC, Daniel Bagwell, of Pelzer, SC, Bill Christmas, of Anderson, SC, and Addison Smith, of Williamston, SC; sisters, Debbie Smith and her husband Rick Thrift, of Anderson, SC and Peggy Shirley, of Anderson, SC; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Grogan. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2016, at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Ron Fousek and Reverend Bill Rigsby officiating. The family will receive friend immediately following the service. A private burial will be held. Flowers are optional.
