Ruby Wynell Hawkins "Polly" Ashley, age 71, of 3536 Trail Road, Belton, died on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at AnMed Health Medical Center with her family by her side. Born on June 18, 1946, she was the daughter of the late William "Billy" J. Hawkins, Jr. and the late Marie Pruitt Hawkins. For forty-nine years, Mrs. Ashley was the loving and devoted wife of John Wendell Ashley, Sr., of the residence. Mrs. Ashley was a graduate of the Belton High School, Class of 1964. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Lander University and a Master of Arts degree from Clemson University. For thirty-three years, she was a teacher at Homeland Park Elementary School in Anderson School District V. Ruby was a member of Mt. Bethel Baptist Church where she served in many capacities for as long as her health permitted. In addition to her husband, John, she is survived by a son, John W. Ashley, Jr., of Belton; a daughter, Wendy Ashley-Bobo and her husband Robert, of Belton; her two grandchildren, Josh and Whitner Bobo of Belton, who were her pride and joy; and a brother, Donald "Pete" Hawkins and his wife, Jean of Anderson. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Hawkins. The family would like to express gratitude to caregivers, Janna Honicutt and Sonja Scott, as well as church family and friends who were there for her during her illness. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 3 p.m. at the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, with Rev. Donnie Murdock and Rev. Mark Krieger officiating. A private interment will follow. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church on Friday, February 2, 2018, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Ashley may be made to Mt.
