Ruby Strickland Chastain, age 89, formerly of Anderson, died Sunday, February 20, 2011, at NHC, Mauldin, SC.Born in Gainesville, GA, she moved to Anderson as a child. She was a daughter of the lateLuther and Avis Strickland. She grew up in Anderson and graduated from Girl's High School, class of 1939.She was married and devoted to Frank Chastain for 66 years. She was a homemaker, co-owner of Chastain's Casuals and later Chastain's Campers and Motorhomes.Mrs. Chastain is survived by her daughter, Dixie Chastain Culbreath and her husband, Chalmers; a son, James Frank Chastain, Jr. and his wife, Anne; grandchildren; Kip Chastain and his wife, Beth; Jennifer Culbreath Dwight and her husband, Arthur; Julie Culbreath Ducworth and her husband, John; great-grandchildren: Hayley Elizabeth Chastain, Carter Chastain Dwight, Arthur Jenkins Dwight, Jr. and Melissa Gould and her husband, Jon.In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, James Frank Chastain, Sr.She was a member of Concord Baptist Church and the Carrie Griffin Sunday School Class.Through the years, she had taught Sunday school, served as President of WMU, had been a choir member and a faithful church member. Her first love was the God she served so faithfully. She was a loyal friend, teacher and mentor to young women since she was in her early 30's, always having time to listen without being judgmental. She leaves a Godly legacy for all who knew her.The family extends special thanks and appreciation to all the girls at The Garden House and especially the night shift for their devotion, care and kindness.There will be a Celebration of Life Service, Wednesday, February 23, 2011, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. Don Cox officiating. A private family entombment will be held preceding the service.
