IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruby Waldrop
Durham
October 12, 1920 – March 24, 2024
Ruby Waldrop Durham, wife of the late Jett Thomas Durham, passed away peacefully on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024, surrounded by family at her assisted living facility in Anderson, SC.
Born October 12, 1920, in Pickens County, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ernest L. and Christine Volrath Waldrop. Ruby worked in the textile industry and was a lifelong member of Varennes Heights Baptist Church.
This wonderful soul graced this planet for 103 years and what an impact she had on those in her path. She is best described as independent, determined, full of grace and humility, she was kind, feisty and quick-witted to the very end. Granny wanted to share Jesus with everyone she met, and she did just that. She touched many lives, maybe some of the most significant in her last days and weeks. In recent days, she would wonder why the Lord had kept her here for so long. Well, there is an assisted living home called TerraBella full of people that would tell her exactly why He left her here…just so she could have an impact on their lives. We are sad that she is no longer here, no more morning coffee and no more heartfelt conversations about her life and her love for everyone in it. For us, there is a void that cannot be replaced but we can only imagine the joy and happiness that she is feeling in her eternal home. We will see her again but, in the meantime, she's got us covered in prayers that could last 100 lifetimes.
She is survived by her daughter, Shelby Durham Raines and husband Mike; granddaughter, Mekel Durham Waldrop and husband Rick; great grandchildren, Addie Gray Waldrop and Kyler "Jett" Waldrop; and daughter-in-law, Barbara Hiott Duncan, all of Anderson, SC. Also surviving are her brothers, Lester Waldrop (Judy) of Taft, TX, and Charles Waldrop (Debby) of Hammond, IL; and sister Lynda Waldrop Hibberts (Donald) of FL.
In addition to her husband and parents, Ruby is preceded in death by her son, Barry Mikel Durham; brothers, Melvin Waldrop, Lowell, NC, Walker Mitchell Waldrop, Central, SC, William Garland Waldrop, Gastonia, NC, and Paul Waldrop, Lowell, NC; and sisters, Carrie Childress, Mauldin, SC,
Barbara Rash, Leesburg, FL, Eunice Michaels, Gastonia, NC, and Mary Miller, Twin Falls, ID.
The family will receive friends Friday, March 29, 2024, from 2:00-3:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 4:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. Doug Ferguson officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
