Ruby Meredith McCollum, age 86, of Anderson, SC, loving wife to the late Paul M. "Pete" McCollum for 65 years until his death in April 2022, passed away Friday, December 2, 2022, at her residence. Born August 2, 1936 in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Walter Meredith and Gertrude Davis Meredith. Ruby retried from BASF after 27 years of faithful service. Following retirement, she worked in guest services at AnMed Health Women's and Children's Hospital. She and her husband traveled all over the world and they loved to camp. She was a longtime faithful member of Pleasantview Baptist Church, where she was active in the Golden Ambassadors and was a greeter. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa McCollum Bates and husband David; grandchildren, Meredith Bates Smith and her husband Jason and their children Aislyn and Davis Smith, and Jared Bates and his wife Ashlea and their daughter Ainsley Bates; brothers, Edward Meredith (Renee), Preston Meredith (Linda), and Walter "Junior" Meredith (Linda); and sisters, Barbara Reese (Kennith), Shirley Schrotter (Steve), and Linda Meredith. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Tracy McCollum Rimarski; and sister, Sybil Snider. The family will receive friends Sunday, December 11, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow visitation in the Chapel at 3:00 p.m. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Ruby loved Christmas and in honor of her, the family will be wearing Christmas attire and Christmas sweaters and invites all guests to do the same. The family will be at the home of her daughter Lisa. The family would like to thank Affinity Hospice and especially nurse Tia Richens for the love and care provided to Mrs. McCollum this past year. Special thanks are also extended to her caregivers, Geraldine Hammond, Lynn Simmons, and Elaine Latimer.
