April 14, 1927 - February 28, 2009ANDERSON, SCMr. Rudolph McClure O'Neal, Sr., age 81 of Anderson, passed away quietly on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at his family home.Rudolph was the youngest of five children, born to the late John Patrick O'Neal, Sr., and Beulah McClure O'Neal Starbuck. He graduated from Boys' High School and attended Clemson University. He served in the United States Navy. Rudolph met his wife, Rhett Cogburn at Anderson Memorial Hospital while in the Navy when he was home on leave. They were married February 22, 1947. Rudolph owned and operated Rudy's Party Shop for many years. After retiring, Rudy sold peaches from his truck during the summer. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Anderson and was a former member of the American Legion and the Elk's Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend with a generous heart who loved his family and his dogs, but especially his wife and best friend of 62 years, Rhett.Surviving are his wife, Rhett Cogburn O'Neal and their five children; Rudolph McClure O'Neal Jr., and his wife, Nancy of Belton; Daniel Cogburn O'Neal and his wife, Lynn of Spartanburg, SC; Pamela Jo O'Neal of Palm Beach, FL; Paula O'Neal Adank and her husband, Jakob of Anderson, SC; David Shaun O'Neal and his wife, Lee of Lincolnton, NC; sister, Martha McGee. Twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Patricia O'Neal Traynum; two brothers, John Patrick O'Neal Jr., and Frank Watkins O'Neal and one sister, Mary Polkinhorn.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Dr. James R. Thomason.
