Rufus Allen Martin, Jr., 79, of Anderson, passed away November 14, 2021 at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home. Billy was born on February 25, 1942 to Rufus and Lucille Martin in Anderson. After Billy graduated from Boy's High School in 1960, he attended Anderson College. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1962 and served two years on the minesweeper, USS Fidelity. After his time in the Navy he returned home to follow his father's footsteps as a dairyman. His work was his life, leaving no room for "being lazy". Billy developed a herd of Holstein cattle and milked around 200 head at his largest. He loved the land and watching things grow. He found joy preparing the land and cultivating his crops. His farm was recently designated a South Carolina Century Farm as the farm has belonged to the same family for 100 years. Billy is survived by his wife, Jo Anne Martin, daughters Leigh Burton and husband Wayne and Catherine Jones and husband Wes, granddaughters Mary Kate Powell, Bradley Powell, Jaime Jones, Avery Burton, Emma Grace Burton, and Caroline Jones. He was loved and surrounded by all his girls. He is also survived by his sister, Gwen Hardin and brothers, Foster Martin and Steve Martin (Linda) along with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and his lifelong friends. Billy was predeceased by his parents and sisters, Anne Hardin and Jesse Lee Herlong. A service will be held at The McDougald Funeral Home on November 18, 2021 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Hwy, Anderson, SC 29621, in honor of the excellent care Billy received there over the past three years.
