Ruth Foster AtkinMay 30, 1913 - August 22, 2009PENDLETON, SC- Mrs. Ruth Foster Atkin, age 96, of 353 Major Street, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2009 at the Rainey Hospice House.Born in Pendleton, SC, on May 30, 1913, she was a daughter of the late Stark Whitlock and Hannah Calvert Whitlock. She was a longtime member of Second Baptist Church of Pendleton, now Faith Fellowship. Mrs. Atkin worked for many years at Riverside and Appleton Mills in the textile industry. She was twice married, first to the late John Henry Foster, Sr., and secondly to the late Robert Lee Atkin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Foster Hughes of Pendleton, SC; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, and sons: John Henry Foster, Jr., and James Winford 'Bud' Foster.A Graveside service will be held at 4 pm on Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at the Pendleton First Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Cox.
