Ruth H. Hanks, age 94, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024, at her home.

Born December 25, 1929, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Essie Howell. She was married to Jesse James Hanks for 71 years until his death in 2019. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Walter Howell; and sisters, Mattie Powell, Ruby Holbrook, Naomi Simpson, and Edna Stansell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Ruth was a graduate of Girls High and formerly worked as a tour director for Greyhound World Tours and Good News Travel. Following her husband's retirement, they traveled often and spent winters in Clearwater, FL. She was active at Concord Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

She is survived by her son, Steve Hanks; daughter Pamela Hanks; four grandchildren, Chris Hanks, Caroline Miles, Lauren Gillis and Katherine Gillis; and one great grandson, Atticus Miles.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of the Upstate In Home Care for the exceptional care they provided.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Bob Marcaurelle and Rev. Bill Parnell officiating. The family will speak with guests immediately following the service.
