Obituary:ANDERSON, SCRUTH NELSONFebruary 11, 1914 - March 20, 2012Mrs. Ruth Medlin Nelson, age 98, died Tuesday, March 20, 2012, at the National Health Care of Anderson. A native of Anderson, Mrs. Nelson was the daughter of the late John Medlin and the late Doshia Hanks Medlin. For 37 years, she was the devoted wife of the late Farrell Nelson until his death in 1968. Ruth was a life-long, very active and devoted member of Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church in Anderson where she served as a communion steward and was a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She was very active in the Sunday School program. Mrs. Nelson was retired from Wellington/Gluck Mill after many years of employment in the weaving department. Surviving are a son, Jack Nelson and his wife, Jeanne of Salem, SC; daughters, Mary Noyes and her husband, Jim, and Becky Vandiver and her husband Buddy, all of Anderson; a sister, Violet Medlin of Nashville, TN; a beloved sister-in-law, Jettie Nelson of Anderson, as well as 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Preceding Ruth in death, in addition to her parents and husband, Farell, were a brother, Ernest Medlin, sisters Sybil Bailey, Faye Medlin and Louise Medlin. She was also predeceased by a granddaughter, Cheri Stanley.A service celebrating the life of Ruth Nelson will be held at the Graveside at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Friday, March 23, 2012, at 3 PM with Rev. Dr. David Bailey officiating. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, March 23, 2012, from 1 PM until 2:30 PM. The family will be at the home of Mary and Jim Noyes, 604 Holly Hill Drive, Anderson.Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Nelson to the Marshall Memorial United Methodist Church, 135 Riley Street, Anderson, SC 29624.A message of condolence may be sent by visiting www.mcdougaldfuneralhome.com.
