S.B. Owen Anderson, SC S. B. Owen, age 86, of 906 Reed Road, Anderson, husband of Sara Irby Owen, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in the Piercetown Community, he was a son of the late Fred B. Owen and the late Geneva Gaillard Owen. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He was a homebuilder around the Anderson County area for many years and in the early 1970's he founded Builders Supply on Highway 81 North. In 1978, he developed North Gate Apartments at the corner of Hwy 28 Bypass and Liberty Highway. He operated North Gate Apartments, along with his daughter Diane and son-in-law, Ernest, until his death. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church in the Piercetown Community. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sara Irby Owen; a daughter, Diane Owen Locke and her husband Ernest, of Anderson, SC; one grandson, David B. Locke and his wife Robin; one great-grandson, Owen Locke; a brother, Wilson Owen and his wife, Rosalie, of Walhalla, SC; and a sister, Zoe Owen Smith and her husband Wylie, of Pelzer, SC. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church, Hwy 81 North, in the Piercetown Community. Rev. Gene Burdette and Rev. Dale Hart will officiate. Interment will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Flowers are optional.
