Obituary

Sam Michael "Mike" Pappas died with family surrounding him on September 1, 2021 after his brave fight with debilitating strokes. He is survived by his loving wife and supreme caretaker, Sooyun, daughter, Nicole, daughter, Alex (Pete Komar), son, Chris (Caroline), mother, Ann, sister, Karen (Mike Giles), and many loving family members. He is preceded in death by his father Sam. Michael spent his career redefining success in the trucking industry by implementing coast to coast, LTL, a cutting-edge logistics strategy. His successes are superseded by the vast network of exquisite relationships and friendships across the United States. Generous beyond measure, Michael never missed a chance to help his colleagues, friends, church, or family members. His unwavering loyalty and bigger-than-life love are testimony to his larger-than-life heart. To say he will be missed is an understatement. He was a "Tar Heel born", a "Tar Heel bred", and when he died, he was a "Tar Heel dead." Carolina Blue attire is strongly encouraged. Michael will lie in state Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm beginning, September 6, 2021, at The McDougald Funeral Home. On Saturday, September 11, 2021, the family will be present for a visitation from noon to 3:00 pm. A graveside service will begin at 4:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. C.W. Hicks officiating. Flowers will be accepted at The McDougald Funeral Home and memorial contributions may be made to Crossway Community Church, 300 Circle Dr., Sandy Springs, SC 29670.
