SAMUEL 'SAM' HORNE June 30, 1934 - August 3, 2005STARR, SC Mr. Samuel Melvin Horne, age 71, husband of Awverne Reed Horne of 210 Bluefield Road, Starr, SC, died Wednesday, August 03, 2005 at his residence.Born in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Robert L. Horne and Callie Fleeman Horne. He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas and in the mid 1950's was a semi-professional boxer. He was of the Church of God Faith.Survivors include his wife, Awverne Reed Horne of the home; a son, Ronnie Samuel Horne of Anderson, SC and a daughter, Kathy Horne Edgar of Starr, SC; a brother, Robert 'Jr.' Horne of Anderson, SC; a sister, Inez Lollis of Anderson, SC; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Horne and sisters, Mamie Sue Horne, Lutrell Hamm, Annie Mae Roach, Reba Crocker and Grace Stowe.Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5, 2005 at 1:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home by the Reverend Jerry Gray and the Reverend Mrs. Frances Cobb. Interment will follow in New Silverbrook Cemetery in Anderson, SC.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, August 4, 2005 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the home of a grandson, Morgan Wilson, 1200 S.
