Obituary

Samuel A. Taylor, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Presbyterian Home Communities of SC, Lexington, SC. Mr. Taylor was born in Ridgeway, SC on March 19, 1931, and was the son of the late Jessie Tidwell Taylor and Samuel A. Taylor. He graduated from Columbia Bible College, University of South Carolina, and Louisiana State University School of Banking. He began work at First National Bank in 1953 in Columbia, SC and retired as VP of personnel, operations, and security from SC National Bank in Anderson, SC. He was a dedicated member of First Presbyterian Church in Anderson, SC where he served as a Sunday school teacher, member of the chancel choir, Deacon, Elder, and on the board of trustees. Sam was very active in an independent Bible study group and was a member of the Anderson Rotary, serving on the board of directors. Sam lived life to the fullest sharing his many talents (music, needlepoint, and calligraphy) with all who knew and loved him. He was referred to as "The Renaissance Man" in Anderson, SC because of his many interests and talents. He is survived by his sister, Charlotte T. Miller; three nieces, Mary Carol (Mike) McDonald, and Jeanne (Rhett) Denton, both of Columbia, SC, and Debbie (Barry) Owens, of Chapel Hill, NC; one nephew, Charles (Diane) F. Miller, of Aiken, SC. Also surviving is Dr. Boris Ilg, Sam and Hannah's God Son and Mary Taylor Miller, a great niece, their God Daughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hanna Stokes Taylor; and a sister, Anne T. Cunningham. The Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Antreville, SC with the Reverend Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating. Many thanks for the wonderful care given to Sam by the staff in Special Care and Health Care at Presbyterian Communities of SC. There will be a Memorial Service held at Presbyterian Home Community of SC in Lexington, SC on Monday, October 31, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 302 W.
