Obituary

Sara Elizabeth McKinney Barnes, age 85, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, at Summit Place of Anderson.

Born January 8, 1939, in Williamston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Aaron McKinney and Kathleen Hardy McKinney. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Robert, Rudolph, and Ron McKinney; sister, Sue Roach; sister-in-law, Mary McKinney; and stepson, Greg Barnes.

Sara was a loving wife to her husband Jim and supported him in every aspect of his life, including their clown ministry. She excelled at sewing and had a special talent for creating clown costumes as well as a George Washington costume. She also had a special gift for creating beautiful floral arrangements. Sara had the gift of hospitality and was a great hostess to guests in her home. She had a special love for Alaska where she lived for 35 years. She was a faithful member of Hopewell Baptist Church. Sara will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her loving husband, James W. Barnes; children, Michael Thrasher (Pam), Curtis Thrasher (Sandra), Robin Barnes Larson (Brandon), Lynda Barnes Kingman (Glen), Troy Barnes (Khris), and Lisa Barnes Storm (Damon); brother, Kenneth McKinney; brother-in-law, David Roach; special niece, Sherry Green; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 12:00-1:00 pm at Hopewell Baptist Church with the service beginning at 1:00 pm. A committal will follow at 3:00 pm at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hopewell Baptist Church, 3530 Hopewell Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
