SARA M. BARNETTE Sara McLeese Barnette, age 87, formerly of Pendleton, passed away at Morningside of Seneca on Friday, July 24, 2015. Born in Anderson County on September 28, 1927, she was the daughter of the late James F. McLeese and the late Cora Kellett McLeese. For fifty-five years, she was the loving and devoted wife of the late James S. "Billy" Barnette until his death in 2003. Mrs. Barnette was a graduate of Anderson Girls' High School and then attended Southern Business University in Atlanta, GA. She was retired from Wells Fargo Bank where she served in several management positions. She had the distinction of being the first female officer of any bank in the State of South Carolina and was Branch Manager of Wachovia Bank located in Anderson Mall. Sara was a member of First Baptist Church in Pendleton, where she sang in the Sanctuary Choir and was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class. Survivors include two sons, James E. Barnette and his wife, Marlane, of Anderson, and Bruce Barnette and his wife, Betsy, of Alpine, AL; a daughter, Kathey Ricketts and her husband, Robert, of Seneca; a brother, William McLeese and his wife, Judy, of Blairsville, GA; also surviving are eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Billy, Mrs. Barnette was preceded in death by an infant brother, George E. McLeese, and another brother, Larry T. McLeese. A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Sara Barnette will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Courtney Krueger and Rev. Jack Mahaffey officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will be at the residence of Kathey and Robert Ricketts, 153 Bellwood Drive, Seneca, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, July 26, 2015, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff and management of Morningside Assisted Living for the love and care provided Mrs. Barnette during her residency.
