Sara Elizabeth Bowling Gentry, age 86, went to her Heavenly Home upon her death at NHC of Anderson on Tuesday, February 2, 2016. Born in Anderson County on April 9, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Marion D. Bowling and the late Ellie Caldwell Bowling. For almost twenty years, she was the loving and devoted wife of Roy M. Gentry until his death in 1966. Mrs. Gentry was a graduate of Anderson Girls' High School, Class of 1946, and attended Forest College. Sara was employed as a spooler at Anderson Mill, J. P. Stevens Appleton Plant. Later she was employed in the accounting office at Sullivan Hardware, a position from which she ultimately retired. Mrs. Gentry was a member of West Whitner Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Roy M. Gentry and his wife, Shirley, of Anderson; two daughters, Elizabeth Dale Motiff and her husband, Matt, of Colorado Springs, CO, and Gale G. McMahan and her husband, Robert, of Anderson; two sisters, Edith Dillard and her husband, Richard, of Pacolet, SC, and Dorothy Turpin of Anderson; also surviving are three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, and her husband, Roy, Mrs. Gentry was preceded in death by a son, Roy M. Gentry, Jr. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Sara Gentry will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Rev. Jonathan McGary officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence of Cissy and Chris McClain, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, February 5, 2016, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Gentry may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 530 Howell Road, # 201, Greenville, SC 29615.
