Sara Carol Strickland McElhannon, age 87, of Anderson, SC, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2022, at The Garden House of Anderson. Born September 24, 1935, in Starr, SC, she was the daughter of the late William H. Strickland and Alma M. Strickland. She was married to James Calvin McElhannon until his death on January 20, 2022. Sara was a graduate of Girls High, Class of 1953, and attended Winthrop College. She had a love and passion for children and welcomed them into her home as a caregiver. She was a long-time member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she taught the 2 year old Sunday School Class for 36 years and was a member of the Senior Follies where she served as an usher. She was a thoughtful and selfless mother and nana, always serving others. Sara loved her husband, family and church dearly, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her sons, Greg McElhannon (Jane) of Honea Path, Scott McElhannon (Shirley) of Anderson, and Bradley McElhannon (Cameron) of Anderson; brother, Milton Strickland (Frances Jo) of Anderson; brother-in-law, Berry Creamer of Anderson; sisters-in-law, Juanita Patterson of Anderson and Doris Strickland of Anderson; grandchildren, Marcie Reese (Vern), Ryan McElhannon, Helen McElhannon, Thomas McElhannon, and Anna Maret McElhannon; great grandchildren, Jackson and Gavin Reese; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Angela McElhannon; grandson, Rusty Prickett; brother, William H. "Junior" Strickland, Jr.; and sisters, Mildred Creamer and Bobbie Smith. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 13, 2022, beginning at 1:00pm at Boulevard Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm with Dr. Austin Carty and Rev. Randy Creamer officiating. A private committal service will be held at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
