Sara Irby Owen, age 89, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at her home. Born in Anderson County, SC on June 10, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Thomas William Irby and the late Lillie Mae King Irby. Sara taught piano lessons for more than 30 years. She attended Concord Baptist Church and was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church where for over 40 years she was very active as a Sunday school teacher and church musician. She cherished times with her friends and loved to travel and read. She lived her faith and was known for her kindness and strength of character. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Locke and her husband Ernest; one grandson, David B. Locke and his wife Robin; two great-grandchildren, Owen and Graham Locke; two sisters, Fran I. Ellenburg, and Linda I. Stone; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death in 2014 by her husband of 69 years, S.B. Owen. The Funeral Service will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Dr. Don Cox, Reverend Bill Parnell, and Reverend Dale Hart officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery.
