It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Sarah Frances Martin Jones, affectionately known as Sa to her family and friends. Sa passed away at Hospice of the Upstate on Monday, October 15, 2018. Sarah was born January 2, 1926, in Williamston, SC to William Augustus and Pauline Wisenhunt Martin. She attended public schools and then enrolled at Furman at age 16. She graduated from Furman in 1946 at the age of 20 with a Bachelor of Arts in music. After graduation, Sa began working at First Baptist Church of Anderson, where she met her future husband, the dashing young attorney, Oren Jones. They married in 1947. For 60 years of blissful marriage these two journeyed through life hand in hand. They raised their family, traveled extensively, enjoyed their friends, and spent many happy days at Inlet Point, Litchfield Beach, SC. Sa was involved with many organizations in Anderson, including serving on the Anderson School of Theology board (40+ years); founding member of her book club (60 years); Sunshine House board member; longtime member of the Revelers Club. She was a loyal member of the University of South Carolina Gamecock club for 61 years. She had a life-long love of music and both she and Oren were major supporters of GAMAC and the Anderson Symphony. She was a loyal member of St. John's United Methodist Church for over 40 years, and a long-time member of the church choir. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family. She was the matriarch of our family and will be sorely missed by us. The thought of O and Sa finally together again is what will always hold us up. God Bless to Sa. Left to carry on her legacy are her son, W. Stephen Jones and his wife, Shannon; daughter, Nancy Sutton and her husband, Lacy; grandchildren, Will Jones, Blair Sucher, Claire Thomas, Lauren Hogan, James Sutton, Jessica Stone, Anna Jones, Frazier Jones and Shane Jones; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Cate Hogan, McNary, Sunni and James Sutton, Charlie Thomas, Jones Sucher and Nolan Stone; also we have to mention her precious dog, Heidi. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Oren O. Jones in 2008, and her oldest son, Oren Martin Jones in 2012. The graveside service will be at 1:00pm Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Old Silver Brook Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
