Charles Scott Parent, age 83, of Oscoda, MI, formerly of Mt. Clemens, MI passed away suddenly on Friday, April 3, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on September 5, 1942, in Kalamazoo, MI to the late Charles Edson and Mary Jane (Young) Parent. Scott graduated from Royal Oak Dondero High School in 1960 and went on to attend the police academy. He proudly served as a police officer with the Mt. Clemens Police Department for 20 years, dedicating himself to protecting and serving his community.

On November 25, 1960, Scott married the love of his life, Carole Jean Lammi, cherishing 56 years of marriage. Together, they built a life centered on hard work, family and community. In 1987, they opened Cedar Lake Grocery in Greenbush, MI, welcoming their first customers on April 7th of that year. The store became a beloved staple in the community, known for its famous donuts and the warm, friendly atmosphere that Scott and Carole created for everyone who walked through the doors.

Scott, aka “The Donut King”, was truly a cornerstone of the community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand; whether it was plowing a driveway, offering someone a ride or quietly helping ease a financial burden for a family in need. His generosity and kindness touched the lives of many. Scott took great pride in working at the store and valued the relationships he built over the years. In the rare moments that he was away from the store, he loved spending time with his family and traveling to casinos with his wife. Scott will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his giving heart and his unwavering dedication to his family and community.

He is survived by his loving children, Michael (Paula) Parent of Clinton Twp, MI, Mark (Amanda) Parent of Greenbush, MI, Todd (Tina) Parent of Anderson, SC and Cheryl (Steve) Franks of Greenbush, MI; brother, Gregg (Sandy) Parent of Campbellsville, KY; sister-in-law, Karen (Alan) Usler; brother-in-law, Robert (Stephanie) Lammi; grandchildren, Adam (Melissa), Anne, Brooke (Ryan), Leona (Matthew), Eric, Darryl, Andrew (Cheyenne), Kirsten (Aaron), Kourtney (Darrius) and Brandon (Katlyn); great-grandchildren, Olivia, A.J., Luke, Luke, D.J., Victoria, Brody, Tucker, Maria and Emma. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, wonderful friends and his cat, Molly.

In addition to his parents, Scott was preceded in death by siblings Kenneth and Deborah and his wife, Carole.

The family will welcome friends on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 12PM until a 5PM service at Buresh Funeral Home in Oscoda, MI.
