Obituary

Sgt. Grady Haskell Canup was born July 28, 1915 in Pendleton, SC, and was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Jackson Canup. Haskell as he was known, enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Jackson on June 26, 1941. He served in Company C 12th Infantry in the European Theatre. While fighting on the front lines of the Battle of Hurtgen Forest in Hurtgen, Germany, Sgt. Canup was killed in action on November 14, 1944. Survivors include Rev. and Mrs. Danny Hawkins, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Dustin York, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Bryant, Mr. and Mrs. Brandon Leroy, Alle Leroy and Taylor Leroy, Matthew Bryant and Zoey Bryant, Mr. Oliver Hayes, and Mr. and Mrs. Mikell Baker. A graveside service with full military honors will be held Sunday, April 10, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Those wishing to pay their respects by signing the Guest Register may do so on Saturday, April 9, 2022 from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home.
