Shelby Jeanette Barnes Gillespie, age 70, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at her home. Born September 30, 1951, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Lem Barnes and Cora Lee Philyaw Arflin and her husband Jim Arflin. She was married for 43 years to John M. "Mickey" Gillespie until his death in 2011. Shelby spent her career in the textile industry and was retired from Southern Weaving. She was a Christian woman who was faithful to her Lord. She enjoyed reading her Bible and spending time in prayer. Shelby loved her family and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and mother-in-law. She is survived by daughter, Angie Morgan and her husband Roger; sons, James Gillespie and his wife Renea and Jonathan Gillespie; grandchildren, Dusty Morgan and his wife Shannon, Michael Gillespie, and Braylin Gunnels and her husband Drew; great granddaughter, Caylee Morgan; brother Benny Arflin; sisters, Annette Hall, Judy Cartee (Dean), and Vickie Gambrell (Larry); sisters-in-law, JoAnn Norwood, Bonnie Lowie, Prescilla Fowler, Doris Eskew (Pete), and Mable Ferderer; special aunts, Annis Madden and Juanita Johnson; friend and prayer warrior, Connie Moncrief; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Gerald "Buddy" Barnes and Mikey Barnes; and nephew Tommy Smith. The family will receive friends Friday, January 14, 2022, from 12:30-1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Dr. Tony Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
