Shelby Jean Philyaw, age 82, of Anderson, SC, loving wife to Laverne Philyaw for 65 years, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021, at her residence surrounded by her family. Born August 2, 1938, in Anderson, SC, she was the daughter of the late Sarah Ethel Jarrard Roberts and the late John Thomas Roberts. Shelby was formerly employed at Owens Corning Fiberglass and member of Truth Tabernacle. She was a friend and second Mama to many, always available with open arms and a welcoming spirit. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and caregiver who loved fiercely, and who firmly believed in always taking care of her family. In addition to her husband, Laverne, she is survived by her four children, Pam Tucker (Ron), Mike Philyaw (Deb), Sandy Snider (Tim), and Gina Philyaw; sister, Lucinda Venturella; brother, James "Jim" Roberts (Robin); six grandchildren, Carrie Shead (Jeff), Emily Hart, Michael Snider, Anna Spatafora (Anthony), Casey Jones (Matthew), and Josh Tucker; eleven great-grandchildren, Bryant Shirley (Kelsi), Bryce Smith, Byron Shirley, Brody Smith, Brock Smith, Reeves Snider, Maddox Spatafora, Avery Spatafora, James Snider, Ashley Bagwell (Jeremiah), and Caleb Shead; four great-great-grandchildren, Lane Bagwell, Maebree Bagwell, Braylon Shirley, and Blaine Shirley. The family will receive friends Monday, March 29, 2021, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow visitation in the Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Les Pennell and Rev. Philip McAlister officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will be at the residence.
