Shirley Smith Gray, age 80, of Iva, SC, passed away Monday, December 6, 2021. Born January 14, 1941, in Iva, she was the daughter of the late R.H. Smith, Sr. and Georgie Brown Smith. She was married to Baxter Milton Gray, Jr. until his death in 2005. Shirley loved caring for her family and gardening. She was a member of Poplar Spring Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Steve Gray of Iva; brothers, Grover Smith of Spartanburg, Charles Smith (Linda) of Iva, and R.H. Smith, Jr. (Rachel) of Anderson; and sister, Clara Machen (Jackie) of Iva. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughters, Sherry Ann Gray and Sissy Gray; brothers, David, R.C., Floyd, Buddy, Doug, Jimmy, Roger, and Buck Smith; and sisters, Ida Bell Smith and Hilda Rogers. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 9, 2021, from 2:00-3:00 pm at Poplar Spring Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 3:00 pm with Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
