Obituary

Shirley Bruce Huitt, age 82, of Anderson, entered the Church Triumphant on Thursday, September 15, 2016, upon his death at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born on June 20, 1934, in Anderson, he was the son of the late Bruce Eldridge Huitt and the late Georgie Long Huitt. For sixty three years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Ann Weathers Huitt of the home. Mr. Huitt was a graduate of Anderson Boys' High School, Class of 1952. He proudly served his country in the US Naval Reserve. He was a partner of C M S Garage. Later, Shirley was owner of Shirley Huitt and Sons Automotive Service. He served as President of the Independent Garage Owners Association of South Carolina and also the Anderson local association. Mr. Huitt also served on the Board of the State and local South Carolina Cattleman's Association. His passion was his family and farming. He also served on the Board of Center Rock Fire Department and was "Mayor" of Center Rock Community daily morning coffee club. He was faithful member of Robert's Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. Previously he was an Elder at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. In addition to his wife, Ann, Mr. Huitt is survived by his 6 children: Sheryl Winstead (Dan), Timothy (Barbara), Chris (Lynne), Mark (Robin), Laurie Scarborough (Donnie), and Lynne Fairey (Burke); his 16 grandchildren: Daniel Winstead Jr. (Sarah), Ian Huitt (Cathlyn), Brandon Scarborough (Heather), Tori Sams (Matthew), Catlin Huitt (Fianc Spencer Waldrop), Holly Huitt (Oliver), Huitt Scarborough (Tammy), Lyndsey Long (Jacob), Justin Huitt (Kels Bonham ), Anna Fairey, Emily Huitt (Fianc Matt Cape), Wesley Scarborough (Cortlandt), Meghann Huitt, Lauren Fairey (Rooke Crouch), CJ Huitt (Natalie Holcombe), and Tripp Fairey; his 9 great grandchildren: Blakely, Layla, Jonah, Jackson, Eliza Kay, Violet, Rhett, Knox and Mary Alice. Also surviving are a sister-in-law, Carol Huitt, a brother-in-law, Dean Parker, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charlie Huitt, and a sister, Betty Parker. A service to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Shirley Huitt will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Roberts Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Jack Taylor and Rev. J. Floyd Stansell, Jr. officiating. A Celebration Reception will be held in the Fellowship Hall following the service.
