SHIRLEY KENNEDY Shirley Ann "Nanny" Partain Kennedy, age 77, of 4223 Dixon Road, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by the love of her family and friends on Tuesday, July 1, 2014. Born on February 8, 1937, in Anderson, she was the daughter of the late Roy Partain and the late Blanche Taylor Partain. For 58 years she was the loving and devoted wife of the late Harold Dean Kennedy until his death on May 8, 2014. Mrs. Kennedy was employed for many years in the retail grocery business at the A & P Grocery Store. Shirley was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for 40 years. She also kept the nursery at Pope Drive Baptist Church on Wednesday night's for many years. Those who knew Shirley knew that she never met a stranger. She loved cooking for her family and friends, and enjoyed working in her yard. Her passion was her work with children. Over many years, she influenced many young lives through her work in the church nursery. Those left to carry on the legacy of Shirley "Nanny" Kennedy include her daughter, Deborah Lynn Skelton of the residence; 3 grandchildren, Deana Alcott and friend, Chris Bordelon, Alecia Nolish (Matt), and Andrea Burgess (Jon); and 6 great-grandchildren, Nicholas Alcott, Madelyn Alcott, Noah Burgess, Payton Nolish, Emma Burgess, and Jaxon Nolish. A Graveside Service to honor and celebrate the life of Shirley Kennedy will be held Thursday, July 3, 2014, at 4 p.m. at the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Joe Whisnant officiating. The family is at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, July 3, 2014, from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Kennedy may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Road, Anderson, SC 29625.
