Shirley Jean Hager Sjoerdsma, age 83, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 11, 2016 at her residence. Shirley lived her life in joyful service to her Lord and her family. Born in Grand Rapids, MI, on April 9, 1933, she was the daughter of the late John Hager and the late Anna Boelema. She is survived by her children, Daniel Sjoerdsma and his wife Sally, of Southside, AL, Lori Van Oss and her husband Randy, of Anderson, SC, Lynn Vannette and her husband Jeff, of Anderson, SC and Douglas Sjoerdsma and his wife Roxanne, of Grand Rapids, MI; one sister, Ann Ashby and her husband Jim, of Nashville, MI; one brother-in-law, Ray Ezinga, of Loveland, CO; three brothers, Jack Hager and his wife Marlene, of Jenison, MI, John Hager and his wife Mick, of Caledonia, MI, and Robert Hager and his wife Linda, of Grand Rapids, MI; three sisters-in-law, Doris Te Bos, of Jenison, MI, Alberta Hoekwater, of Jenison, MI, and Kay Rotman and her husband Nels, of Grand Rapids, MI; and brother-in-law, Herman Sjoerdma, Jr. and his wife Ardy of Byron Center, MI; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry James "Jim" Sjoerdsma; three sisters, Helene DeVries and her husband Dave Meulenberg; Janet VerHage and her husband Donald, and Mrs. Sjoerdsma's identical twin, Jean Shirley Ezinga; a brother: Pete Hager and his wife Lorna, and three brothers-in-law, Kerwin TeBos, Harold Hoekwater, and Tom Sjoerdsma. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Monday, November 21, 2016. Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery in Anderson, SC. A lunch reception will be held at the McDougald Family Center after the committal service. The family will receive friends and family on Monday, prior to the service from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
