Shirley Mae Brookshire Tarter, age 88, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Simpsonville Post Acute. Born October 1, 1934, in Norwood, OH, she was the daughter of the late William Brookshire and Flora Lowry Brookshire. She was also preceded in death by her son, Thomas G. Tarter, Jr.; granddaughter, Natalie Rabideau; and sister, Pauline McMahan. Shirley attended the University of Cincinnati where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority. She was a talented seamstress, artist and fashion merchant who also enjoyed traveling, dancing and cruising. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Gerald Tarter; daughters, Vanessa Tarter Rhodes (Bryan) of Fountain Inn, SC, and Valerie Tarter Anzalone (Sal) of Spring Hill, FL; daughter-in-law, Jessica Tarter of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, Megan Tarter Cocke (David), Rebecca Tarter, Thomas G. Tarter, III (Lauren), Noelle Irvin (Mitch), Jennifer Rabideau, Malone Rhodes Lancaster (Benton), and Kohl Rhodes; great grandchildren, Ever Tarter, Thomas G. Tarter, IV, Milo Irvin, Bryan Karter Rhodes, and Paul Benton Lancaster; and nephews, Dan McMahan (Shawn) and David McMahan (Lisa). The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 26, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Roberts Cemetery Mausoleum with Rev. Randy Kirby officiating.
