Martin L. Clinkscales "Sonny", age 82, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at his residence.
Born in Belton, SC, he was the son of the late William N. Clinkscales, Sr. and the late Olethia Robitzsch Clinkscales. He attended Honea Path area schools. He proudly served his country in the 665th Transportation Truck Company of the United States Army and was wounded in the Korean Conflict, after which he spent 14 months in Ft. Bliss Army Hospital in San Antonio, TX. Sonny was the owner and operator of Clinkscales Garage for more than 55 years. He was a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple in Greenville, SC, Anderson Red Fez Club, American Legion Post 1328, Anderson, SC, Sons of the Confederacy, Center Masonic Lodge AFM , Honea Path, and of Antique Auto Club of America. Sonny was an antique and classic car enthusiast, having won many awards for his cars over the past few years. He was a member of Second Baptist Church of Belton, SC.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Doris Haynie Clinkscales; two daughters, Terri Clinkscales, of Anderson, SC and Lauri Clinkscales Jordan, of Belton, SC; two sisters, Julia Cowfer and her husband Dave, of Aiken, SC and Jackie Foster, of Anderson, SC; four grandchildren, Amber Ashley and her husband Jason, of Anderson, SC, Marty Jordan and his wife Misty, of Williamston, SC, AWC(NAC/AW) Bobby Meeks and his wife Jordan, of Ft. Worth, TX, and Brent Jordan, of Belton, SC; seven great-grandchildren, Ethan, Alyssa, and Oliver Ashley, and Landan, Krei, Kloey, and Kenzli Jordan.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Billie R. Clinkscales and a brother, William N. Clinkscales, Jr.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. C. Mitchell Brooks and Reverend Wesley Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
The family will be at 700 Austin Road, Belton, SC, 29627 and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, June 26, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, 5901 Belton Highway, Belton, SC 29627, or to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
