SSG Charles McLaughlin Pannell went to be with his Lord, on May 8, 2016. Charlie was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina, on April 26, 1981. He was 35 years old.
He is survived by his wife, Bethany Nicole Pannell and their three children, MaKynna Jean Pannell, Carter Patrick Pannell, and Garrett William Pannell of the home. He is also survived by his mother, Lynette Martin Pannell of Anderson, two brothers, Joshua Harris Pannell and wife Carrie of Anderson and Edward Andrew Pannell of Edisto Island, South Carolina, his paternal grandmother, Joyce Kathleen Pannell, of Easley, SC, two nieces and three nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Nathan Edward Pannell, his paternal grandfather, Bobby Gene Pannell, maternal grandparents, Connie and Herman Martin, and his aunt, Cheryl Jean Martin.
Charlie was a 1999 graduate of T.L. Hanna High School and served in the US Army for twelve years. He was seriously wounded during his third tour in Iraq, in 2008. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for Exceptional Meritorious Achievement.
He worked for Upstate Warrior Solution, a non-profit organization that assists veterans and their families. Charlie was a devoted father and husband and an avid hunter. He treasured his friends and buddies from the Army.
Visitation will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church, on Saturday, May 14, from 1:00-3:00 pm. The service will follow at New Prospect at 3:30 pm. Interment will be held on Monday, May 16, 2016, at M. J. 'Dolly' Cooper Veteran's Cemetery. The family is at the residence.
