Stanley D. Smith, age 81, of 198 Graylyn Drive, began his new life in Heaven on July 28, 2016. He was welcomed there by his parents, Reverend John D. and Blanche Smith; his beloved sister, Brenda Gunter and brother, Dennis "Rusty" Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Earlene Smith, as well as four sons and their wives, Larry and Pamela Smith, of Hertford, NC, Lane and Wendy Smith of Port St. Lucie, FL. Reverend Lindsey and Angela Smith, of Vero Beach, FL, and Richard Lavan and Darlene Smith, of Annapolis, MD. He is also survived by eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Smith graduated from Lee College Academy, Class of 1953, where he was Valedictorian, Class Vice President, and President of the Beta Club. He continued his education at Lee College, now known as Lee University, where he was voted most intelligent male student. Mr. Smith spent his career with Household Finance Company, where he became District Supervisor of Texas and Florida location and Wickes, Inc., a major building supply company, where he served as Assistant Vice President and Executive Director of Credit and Financing for all locations. Mr. Smith was an enthusiastic athlete enjoying sports including tennis, golf, and track. He loved spending time with his family and friends and making people laugh. He served in many churches over the years as Minister of Music, licensed in the Church of God in 1973, choir director, pianist, organist, District Youth Director, Sunday School Superintendent, and teacher, church clerk/ treasurer, and most recently an Ordained Elder, church and choir member of High Praises Church of God since 2001. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, July 30, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. A celebration of Mr. Smith's life will be held Sunday, July 31, 2016, at High Praises Church of God at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Sustar and Reverend Keith Gunter officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, with Pastor Dale Dyar.
