Steve Reynold Whitfield, age 76, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House. Born June 1, 1947, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late John Whitfield and Helen McGaha Whitfield. He was also preceded in death by his brother and sister. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War in Germany and Holland. Following his active duty, he continued his military career in the Reserves and Civil Service for a total of 28 years of service. Pop was an insurance agent for most of his working career and was an avid traveler. He was devoted to his family and loved them above all. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Linda Lunsford Whitfield; sons, Johnny Whitfield (Lesslie) and Eric Whitfield (Alisha); grandchildren, Courtney, Seth, Bailey, Kaden, and Christian; and great grandchildren, Liam and Evelynn. The family will receive friends Friday, September 8, 2023, from 12:30-1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service with military honors will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Allen McConnell and Rev. Scotty McCracken officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
