Ella Sue Stone Atkins, age 92, of Anderson, SC, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born July 13, 1932, in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Martin Rogers Stone and Nellie Chastain Stone. She was married for 61 years to Thomas "Joel" Atkins until his death in 2013. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Pat Stone and James Ray Stone; and sisters, Dorothy Cross and Hilda Reeves.

Sue began her working career in her teenage years at Woolworths Department Store and later worked as a receptionist in the medical field. She was a faithful a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, and in her earlier years she was a member of Homeland Park Baptist Church where she served in many areas including the church choir and Vacation Bible School. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening and traveling with her church groups.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Richey, Lynne Murphy (Robert), and Alyson Allen (David); brother Martin Stone (Pam); sister, Margaret Morrow; grandchildren, Justin Richey (Candace), Jeremy Richey (Lacey), Joshua Richey (Kristen), Elliott Allen, and Lara Allen; and great grandchildren, Nolan, Bryson, Chandler, Carson, Alexis, Chloe, Ella, and Sophia.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 22, 2024, from 10:00-11:30 am at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow the visitation at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel at 12:00 pm with Mr. Charles Allen officiating.

Flowers will be accepted.

The family will be at the home of her daughter, Lynne Murphy.
