Mary Sue Burgess Rider, age 80, of Anderson, SC, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born November 3, 1943, in, Williamston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Louise Hammond Burgess. She was married to George W. Rider, Sr. until his death in 2008. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Burgess; a daughter, Julie Strickland; and a granddaughter, Constance Hope Yates.
Sue was retired from Patrick B. Harris Psychiatric Hospital. She was a woman of strong faith, loved God, and was a member of Grace Memorial Baptist Church. She was a selfless caretaker of others and a hard worker who instilled a good work ethic in her children. Sue was funny and loved to laugh and nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her family and friends.
She is survived by her children, Tamela "Tammi" Dyar (Barry), Tracie Sweet (Greg), Robin Norris, Linda Kim Conwell (Mike), Sammy Brown, and Tammy George; brother, Ricky Burgess (Paula); grandchildren, Tasha Kent, Jonathan Yates, Angela Smith, Morgan McConnell, Colton Clardy, Caitlin Sweet, Hannah Grace Sweet, Shelley Brown, Blake Brown, and Brandon Dyar; great grandchildren, Camdyn Kent, Addison Kent, Brayden Arnold, and Kayson, along with 10 additional great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 1, 2023, from 2:00-3:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 3:30 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Dr. Larry Pearson officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
The family would like to thank "Mama Sue's" special nurse Stacy, along with the doctors, nurses and other staff at AnMed Medical Center Neurological Intensive Care Unit as well as Hospice of the Upstate for the care provided to Sue.
Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
The family will be at the home of her daughter, Tracie Sweet, 312 Ellington Rd., Pendleton, SC 29670.
