DAVISANDERSON, SC -- Susan Atchley Davis died at her home in Anderson on July 14th after a courageous two-year battle with cancer. Mrs. Davis, who was one of six children, was born in Philadelphia, Tennessee. She attended Berea College in Kentucky where she met her future husband, Dr. James ('Jim') Davis. In 1950, the couple settled in Anderson where Dr. Davis established the first radiology department at Anderson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Davis continued his practice there until his death at the age of 54 in 1974.Mrs. Davis leaves one surviving sister, Margaret Phillips, who resides in Macon, GA., and several nieces and nephews. Her five devoted children are Jamie Davis from Pickens, SC, Suzanne Wilson from Charlotte, NC, Dr. Bruce Davis from Augusta, GA, Dr. Andy Davis from Morganton, NC, and Dr. Eric Davis from Houston, TX. 'Nana' was adored by her ten grandchildren who are Dr. Jocelyn Hanna, James Wilson, Shelby Davis, Susan Davis, Michael Davis, Adrienne Davis, Andrew Davis, Byron Davis, Margaret Davis, and Dorothy Davis. Susan Davis was a strong woman of faith who leaves a legacy of life lessons for her surviving children and grandchildren. Whatever trials came her way, Mrs. Davis was always steadfast and courageous'so meek, contented, modest, steady and tender. Her love of music was lifelong, beginning with hymn singing as a young child. Mrs. Davis began taking piano lessons in her 70's and enjoyed playing music up until her diagnosis with cancer. Rain or shine, Mrs. Davis always began her day with an early morning walk. Her walking routine became legendary. Above all, her greatest love was to spend time with her children and grandchildren. A woman of grace, Mrs. Davis will be sadly missed by all whose lives she touched. The Graveside Service will take place at 11am on Saturday, July 18th, at Forest Lawn Memorial Park conducted by the Reverend Dr. William R. Childs. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, July 17th, from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
